FORTY YEARS AFTER the first Star Wars movie was released, Disney have announced that Rian Johnson, director of The Last Jedi, will create a brand new Star Wars trilogy.
The announcement was made on StarWars.com, where Lucasfilm and Disney said they were ‘immensely proud’ of the work that Johnson had done with The Last Jedi:
He’s a creative force and watching him craft The Last Jedi from start to finish was one of the great joys of my career. Rian will do amazing things with the blank canvas of this new trilogy.
Johnson and Lucasfilm’s president Kathleen Kennedy had a joint statement:
Star Wars is the greatest modern mythology and we feel very lucky to have contributed to it. We can’t wait to continue this new series of films.
No release dates have been set for the new films, and no porgs were available for comment.
Fans on Twitter seem slightly apprehensive about the announcement.
Others think that everyone else just needs to relax.
We’ll just have to wait about 3-10 years to find out.
